Mine Details

Sindh’s coal fields are a vital part of the province’s rich geological heritage, and Sindh’s coal fields represent a significant part of the province’s rich geological heritage, reflecting decades of exploration and development within Pakistan’s energy sector. These coal reserves have supported sustained industrial progress and remain strategically vital for the country’s energy security.
The Province of Sindh accounts for approximately 98% of Pakistan’s total coal deposits, estimated at 185.456 billion tonnes. The principal coal fields include:

  • Thar Coalfield: The largest, with reserves of 175,505 million tonnes, forming the backbone of Sindh’s coal mining industry.
  • Sonda-Jherruck Coalfield: Contains 7,612 million tonnes and stands as a notable mining area with significant coal quality.
  • Lakhra Coalfields: Holding combined reserves of 1,328 million tonnes, recognized for their industrial mining operations.
  • Jhimpir (Thatta) Coalfield: Approximately 161 million tonnes of coal, contributing to local energy supply.
  • Badin Coalfield: With reserves of 85 million tonnes, it adds to Sindh’s extensive coal resources.

SLCMC Coal Mining Operations cover an area exceeding 13,000 acres located at the core of the Lakhra anticline.

  • Extraction activities are carried out across more than 100 active mining sites.
  • Daily coal production and dispatch surpass 1,500 tons.
  • Operations are supported by a proficient and experienced workforce dedicated to coal mining.

Mr. Toufeeque Ahmed – 2017-2021

Mr. Toufeeque Ahmed, as the first CEO of Sindh Lakra Coal Mining Company (2017-2021), laid the operational foundation of the company under the Sindh Energy Department. He established key staff recruitment policies that built a skilled workforce, His leadership aligned with the company’s vision to enhance the coal sector value chain through best practices and technical expertise. These efforts positioned SLCMC for sustainable growth and a significant role in Sindh’s energy development.

Mr. Khadim Hussain Chana – 2021-2023

An accomplished PSS officer, Strengthened operational safety by establishing emergency relief and rescue services at mining sites. He introduced a comprehensive HR policy for SLCMC employees He championed health insurance coverage for miners, ensuring medical and compensation benefits and enforced strict safety compliance measures.. His leadership emphasized strict safety compliance and extended safety audits across coalfields, reinforcing SLCMC’s commitment to worker welfare and sustainable mining practices.

Mr. Mushtaque Ahmed Soomro – 2023-2024

Mushtaque Ahmed Soomro, an accomplished PSS officer, served as CEO of Sindh Lakra Coal Mining Company (2023-2024).He pioneered the introduction of health insurance coverage for staff, ensuring comprehensive medical and compensation benefits. Drawing on his extensive expertise within the Sindh Energy Department, he championed stringent safety regulations, comprehensive worker welfare programs, and rigorous operational audits. His leadership significantly enhanced production efficiency and fostered sustainable growth. These efforts underscored SLCMC’s commitment to progressive and responsible mining practices.

Mr. Naseem Ali Ghani Sehto – 2024-2025

Naseem ul Ghani Sehto was PSS officer of the Sindh bureaucracy with over three decades of service in various key administrative roles.he successfully enhanced resource management and governance within the company. His strategic approach fostered organizational stability and progress, further strengthening SLCMC’s contribution to the energy sector in Sindh

Mr. Mushtaque Ali Panhwar – 2025-till todate

Began his career with Sindh Lakra Coal Mining Company in 2018. He served as Deputy CEO, where he managed technical operations and asset utilization, significantly contributing to process improvements and resource management. In Feb 2025, he was appointed as the CEO of the company. Since assuming this leadership role, he has been focusing on optimizing resource utilization and aligning the company’s growth with provincial energy objectives. His progression from Deputy CEO to CEO demonstrates his deep expertise and commitment to advancing the company’s mission.
